Building on Tradition Capital Campaign reaches new milestone on the way to $6.7 million goal

Construction Photos Building on Tradition, under the leadership of Campaign Chair Imre Boarden, has crossed the $5 million mark on the way to $6.7 million in Morgan Park Academy’s first capital campaign to renovate and expand its athletic facility.

This important milestone represents the most money raised for any single project in the history of the Academy.  We are especially thankful to donors for helping us to reach the $5 million threshold and creating momentum to meet the challenge of raising the additional funds needed to break ground on the new gymnasium and lobby adjacent to the renovated gymnasium.

Construction Photos The renovation phase of the project has been celebrated as a great success by students, parents and alumni. Our focus is now shifted to the equally important second phase, construction of a new gym and lobby. This addition will be the first new construction on campus in nearly 40 years and give us a regulation-size gym floor for the first time ever, as well as a grand entrance offering space for receptions, gatherings and tributes to athletic accomplishments from every era of the Academy’s rich history. New construction and renovation will result in combined space of more than 38,000 square feet for our students, 20,000 square feet more than the original facility. The new gymnasium will feature six retractable backboards and seating for up to 300 spectators. Physical education classes and sports teams alike will benefit from the additional space to better promote health and fitness. Team practices and games will be able to be scheduled without having to compromise busy academic and extracurricular schedules of students and teachers.

The renovation and expansion of the gymnasium is vital to the future of Morgan Park Academy. Building on Tradition is a first step in the fulfillment of a long-range Campus Master Plan that charts the course for improving and expanding the learning environment over the next quarter century.
As we celebrate this exciting time in the history of Morgan Park Academy, we must remember that the project is not finished yet. The participation of the entire Academy community – parents, alumni and friends – is essential to help achieve the goal of renovating AND adding to our athletic facility, brightening the future for exceptional students for generations to come.
