does a native written language exist in Africa and how far can you trace back African History ?

I was thinking about history and how far you can trace African history. With the exception of Egypt I have never heard of there existing a native written language or ancient written records anywhere in Africa except Egypt. It seems little would be known of the history of the native people if it depended on an oral tradition only.

You’d have to look at Ethiopia, I know they have a long history. Also Mali, had Griots (storytellers) so their history was oral, I read about Sundiata, but I think he was fictional.

The Meroitic civilisation in Kush (south of Egypt in what is now Sudan) developed a writing system based on Egyptian but using a completely different language and distinct signs.

The kingdom of Kush had its own rulers; the people were of negroid appearance (unlike the Egyptians) and resisted all attempts by the Egyptians to conquer them.

african written history in the great islamic kingdoms of the west goes back to what in europe was the late middle-ages. but it has largely been ignored by the west (and many of the manuscripts have been allowed to perish, or sometimes deliberately destroyed).

history is written by the conquerors. they can also unwrite the bits they don’t like.
