Denomination vs. Non-Denomination?

What are the pros and cons of both? I was raised in a denomination known as Marthoma which carries many rituals, traditions, and canons based on St. Thomas (disciple of Jesus) and of course Jesus.

As I grew older I attended more liberal and less structured churches such as Sugar Creek Baptist and/or Lakewood Church which is more non-denomination. I enjoyed the very contemporary service in worship.

The issue here is while I enjoy non-denom I believe it is important in raising my kids with the traditions of a denom church and then later on expose them to non-denom. I believe by giving them tradition, building character, understanding history, exposing them to the christian faith of our descendants offers them the foundations critical in building character, ethics, and values in life. Armed with this I believe as adults they can pair their religions advents by attending non-denomination. I believe non-denom is a great method in coupling or complementing a traditional church.

What is your take or views on this? What are the pros and cons? Some can argue that having all this man-made traditions that exist in denominational churches really skew up the intent in worship and that for some its nothing but rubbish.

What’s your take?

You pretty much summed it up. Man-made traditions vs. God’s will.

What is REALLY imporant is that you bring your kids up with a Love for God and belief in Christ jesus.

It DOESN"T MATTER if you are Catholic, Luthern, Baptist, Methodist, or Pentacostal — What IS important is your love for God and belief in Jesus.

As you pointed out, many church functions are just ceremonies. THEY HAVE NO AFFECT ON YOUR LOVE FOR GOD, and the certainly DO NOT affect your salvation.

So go back to the Marthoma’s if you wish. Or stay with the Baptists. Or worship with the non-denominational. THAT IS NOT IMPORTANT. Where ever YOU feel comfortable is where you should have your "church home".

What IS important is that you have a "home church", where YOU teach your children about God and Jesus.

Go with non-denominational. Especially since the denominations use the the "traditions of man", and the "traditions of man" are worthless:

    Colossians 2:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

The Lord established His church with Apostles and Prophets and there was no question about what was right. He has restored His church with Apostles and Prophets in our day, so now we know for sure what the lord expects of us and gives us a great oportunity to serve and be useful.

There is no scriptural authority for any of the denominations. The Church, the Bride of Christ, is the body of believers that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we are instructed not to have contention amongst us, yet this is exactly why we have denominations. As for traditions and rituals, I do not think they are important. (In fact, I think this is exactly why Christ reprimanded the Pharisees.) What is important is an active and personal relationship with the Creator through our Lord Jesus Christ. I think your children would be better served by teaching them to serve God by serving the people in your community. Nothing builds Christian character like sharing the suffering of others. God bless you.

In a Non-denomination church, after several years closed it doors. an the Church sold everything. The Pastor was the only one to get any rewards . He paid all out-standing bill&taxes. He also pocket a lot of cash. I,M not here to point a finger, but you ask.
