What beliefs, customs, traditions, values and other aspects of Filipino culture which favor big family size?

help!

It is not beliefs, customs, traditions, values or culture that results in big family size.

The stark reality is that most of the poor are unemployed, and some of them don’t even have electricity. At night, they go to bed early, and have nothing else to do – - – no TV, no nothing. Get what I mean?

    Positive aspects:

I would say a big family size is normal in Italy. When Filipinos have a big family size, this is natural. This would involve a lot of celebrations, parties and music.

A big family size would also reflect the degree of liaison, "pakisuyo" in the Filipino culture. Inside a jeepney, the sub society inside (the passengers) normally pass fare charges to the driver. Subsequently, the driver would use the jeepney to fit his big family inside without much alteration in liaison, "pakisuyo".

Thirdly, a big family size indicates individuality. Each member is special in his own way. It is up to the outsider to figure this one out, worth writing a story.

    Difficult aspects:

Medicine is difficult to administer throughout a big family if the family structure revolves around too much liberty and kalayaan. In such cases, one family member would be smoking drugs, thus depleting the family resources by the smoker’s habit and consequently inflicting the resources for medicine administration. This disposition tends to create a need to establish a society with another family who has medicine which is good. The bad thing about this is that it could severely inflict the alignment with international standards in Medicine because the family who has medicine may become impelled to follow the direction of the smoker and may become a smoker themselves. Forming a society with other families who has medicine may be resorted. Such impetus may develop a smoker’s culture which could severely be misaligned from International Medical Standards. A society like this would statistically damage the national economy with accordance to international standards, however a lasting culture which has endured for centuries is necessary to unite the position of economy and destructive smoking. A dialogue between bodies become necessary.

Medical care in the Philippines can become expensive. More family members can become susceptible to death from cases which could be considered insignificant by international standards.

Masaya ang marami, and there are many who can help you, but only if the parents can afford to give every child a decent life, with a good education, and good values.

The RH bill is more important than customs nowadays, with incidence of hunger in the Philippines getting higher and higher over the years (BusinessWorld, Oct. 13 issue). The poor have many children, because they have no info about, nor access to family planning. Our population is at a scary 92 million, and population has a multiplier effect.

As for those who purposely have many kids, they have misplaced beliefs: sana isa man lang sa anak ko ang mag-aahon sa amin mula sa kahirapan. Poor talented child has few opportunities because a large family is hard to feed, clothe and educate. And even if he excels and gets scholarships till college, even if he goes abroad to work and earns more, he will never succeed if his big nuclear family and all his other relatives have to depend on him for everything— his many siblings’ education, appliances, a home, medical support, not to mention food, clothing, fiesta expenses. Things that his parents ought to have been responsible for.
