Yes, it is extremely important, and unfortunately it is neglected by many people in Western countries. Children are no longer taught folk songs, nursery rhymes and other cultural treasures, and that impoverishes them. I think this is a direct result of being overwhelmed by the "Information Age", but a lot of that information is substandard.

I think it is. A lot of times they may not make sense to us as children but as we grow older often times we grow to appreciate the traditions and customs of our familys and the values we developed from keeping such traditions and customs in place. Such traditions or customs could be of the most simplistic design as well such as maybe your grandma always made lasagna for Christmas dinner instead of turkey. This may not seem very important but once Grandma is gone it is a great way to honor her memory and tell stories to younger generations about her. I think it makes us value our families, our history, and our future. It also keeps the spirit of our ancestors and the spirits of ourselves alive among the family for generations to come. This connection to our family both past and present and the reminders is important. You have to also admit that some traditions are fun and worth sharing. Others tell a story which may be valuable one day to our childrens very identity and place in a family.

NO, the new generation has their own life to live.

Absolutely, that’s what makes this country so interesting, ethnic mixture of people with their customs, traditions, need to pass these on to the younger generation so that they know their roots and keep that culture alive. Native American Indians and the Amish r two examples of passed down traditions, both very interesting to see and study, such as their beliefs and customs.Makes for better understanding of the way other people live. If left to die out, the future generation can only read about it and not actually see some of the customs practiced.
