I have to do an essay on a strange tradition that I never really thought that was strange; but it is. Please let me know some info or links to information that tell where, when, and why Santa became a popular tradition. Thanksssssssss :]
In 34AD (Or around then, check it out somewhere on google to be sure) A kindly man named St. Nicholas walked past an open window to see a man and his three daughters loudly crying. He over heard them saying they did not have any riches or gold, or anything of worthly value. The father was afraid that his three daughters would never be married since they did not have a penny to their name. (I now weird.) St. Nicholas arrived that first night with a sack of gold for the eldest daughter and dropped it through the window. The father was ever so thankful the next morning. I think he did it on the 6th of December. The next few nights he did the same thing for all of the girls, and on the final night as he dropped the last bag through the man fell to hsi knees and thanked God for St/ Nicholas. I know the story is strange, and I learned it in school when I was 11 so I can’t really remember the facts that well. Try looking on www.google.com.

It started with St. Nicholas…do some research on him

Below is a link which should give you some answers.
In Germany, we do not have Santa Claus come by on X-Mas.
We call him St. Nicholas and he "shows up" on December 6th. We would put one shoe outside on the night of the 5th to the 6th, and if we were "good children" the boots would be filled with candies.

The Christmas tradition began with a real Catholic and Orthodox saint, named Nicholas of Myra. He was the Bishop of Myra in the 11th century in what’s today, Turkey. He was a very holy man who helped the poor and gave them gifts, like putting coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him. He was also known as Nicholas the Wonderworker, because many legends and miracles are attribute to him. Google his story.
It’s interesting to see how gift-giving at Christmas has morphed from an act of compassion and Christian charity into commercial profit pushing and people killing innocent others as they stampede into Wal-Mart.
