My partner says he wishes to propose to me over the next couple of months, and having a down to earth relationship, we have talked everything through- I was wondering are there any traditions the woman could carry out during the engagement? I know of a couple who both wore engagement rings, but understand this to be a newer tradition and being an old fashioned gal, would like to carry it out as a traditional English celebration. Thanks!
You act surprised, you cry, you squeal, you hug him, you are overjoyed. Sorry, but that’s all I’ve got.

Some couples throw and engagement party to make the official announcement to family and friends that they are now engaged.
Basically the only tradition with engagements is the fun of telling everyone.

Well…I am a traditional Englishwoman too so here is my take on it.
No to an engagement ring for him. It’s not in our tradition and unless you are particularly wild about the idea I wouldn’t do it. I think most men would think it’s a bit ‘girly’.
Has he asked your father? That’s an English tradition!
Make sure that you have a bottle of Bubbly ready when you officially tell your parents. Your parents will of course already know, but you still have to officially announce it as a couple.
Don’t forget to put an announcement in your local newspaper and in one of the Nationals.
and….I hope you will be very happy – which is what we say to the Bride. You only congratulate the Groom as it is he who has won the prize!
