Christians how can the ways and traditions of the pagans be harmless?

When God tells His people not to have anything to do with traditions of men?
No I do not celebrate Christmas
No I do not Ccelebrate Easter either

You have it right. They are not harmless. Though few get physically hurt, the damage to our spirits goes much deeper.

"When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you."
Deuteronomy 18:9-13

If we imitate the things of the world and of pagan origin, how can we be set apart? We cannot serve two masters. We compromise our faith when we participate in things like these. Even if we are just dipping our toes in it we’re still getting wet. And many who continue to do this get deeper and more involved, and compromise themselves more and more.

Do you celebrate Christmas? If you do, I will find the irony hilarious.

There are some pagan things found in christian practice..it’s there. ..but not a reason to toss christianity or the importance of what you say out the window. You are right, but I wanted you to know that.

Not to mention Easter, which is the Spring Fertility festival.

Not to mention New Year’s Day which (until there was a correction of the calendar) was a Pagan end-of-year festival.

Most of what passes for worship in today’s churches comes from the so-called "traditions of men". I’m a Christian, and I’ve taken one history class too many to deny that a lot of Christian tradition comes from Paganism. I learned about it in Christian schools, too, especially about the part how we co-opted Pagan holidays. It’s no secret. I have many Pagan friends, and I treat them with respect, just as I treat Christians and non-Christians alike with respect. Christians have one way of looking at the world, and Pagans have another. We can co-exist without tearing each other down. I enjoy learning from people whose beliefs differ from my own, rather than fearing, belittling, or shunning them. If it’s Halloween you’re worried about, don’t bother. It’s just silly to read too much into goofy costumes and candy corn.

Do you believe pagan gods have power over Jesus? We’re talking kids in costumes begging for candy here, not witchcraft.

Careful, that’s a slippery slope you’re treading on. Do you know how many "traditions of men" have crept into the Christian Church?

Let’s keep in mind that only man judges the outer appearance; God judges the heart.

Just out of curiosity, do you celebrate Christmas? That’s a man-made tradition. How about Easter? Yup, that is too. What about Thanksgiving? Yup, that’s man-made, also.

Didn’t Paul say that we were free, so long as we felt no guilt, and we didn’t cause our brother to stumble? So… why not just let people do what they choose?

I agree. Halloween is to worship other gods. Some say that it’s just a fun time and is harmless but, do you suppose God thinks the same thing? Do you suppose He minds if we worship other gods just this one night? And, do you suppose that the devil knows that you aren’t really worshiping him tonight? Do you think that the devil knows the difference between real worship and fake worship?

Also, I do not celebrate Easter either, I celebrate reserrection Sunday. I do not celebrate the New Year Either. I do celbrate Christmas but I only decorate with Jesus or generic decorations. No Santa, no raindeer etc.

If you can have nothing to do with the traditions of men, how can you ever do anything? It has become a tradition of most people to oh, say, dress certain ways, or live in certain styles of homes, and that changes from area to area and era to era. I live in Southern California, and I wonder why some people build such steeply gabled homes. It almost never snows here, we don’t need pointy rooves to keep the snow from becoming so heavy our roofs cave in. I guess it’s just their traditions.

I eat pork, bake on Sundays and have never made a sin offering at a temple. If I don’t fear breaking the Law of Moses, why would I be afraid of gods I don’t even believe in? Christ has freed us from such worries. If you don’t believe me, just read the New Testament. God bless.
