What are your families special Christmas – holiday traditions with your children?

I am wondering what your family does for the holiday? What special traditions do you have? Just looking for some new ones to begin with my children….

Opening one small gift on Christmas Eve together. Putting out carrots for the reindeer (of course you would have to leave the nasty carrot ends on a plate with some bite marks to make this one work.. haha) and cookies and milk for Santa.

The best one is giving them clothes as their first gift to unwrap like socks or PJ’s and see the surprise/ upset look on their face …

Well I’m German and since I was little we hide a pickle in the Christmas tree and the first person to find it whens a chocolate santa or snowman. Haha, it’s strange, but fun.

We also have advent calenders and you get one candy everyday leading up to x-mas.

On Christmas eve we always play monopoly in the afternoon then go to church and then get frozen yougurt, come home and watch Elf.

For dessert on Christmas we always have a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting with candy fruit on it.

It’s also just fun to make up your own traditions. Think of something unusual to do and do it every year. It can be anything! Merry Christmas. :)

Well it’s not really exciting but this is what we did. =]

When I was little, on Christmas Eve we would eat dinner, then open all our presents from each other, I am an only child, and I would get under the tree and pass out everyone’s presents to them before we all opened… then Christmas Eve night "Santa" came lol! So then I would wake up and we would have more presents from Santa, usually these were the "bigger" gifts. Stockings were only for Santa to put presents in too! This also encouraged me as a little kid to want to get other people gifts because we all exchanged together. Simple but I like it. Have fun with your kids!

Im 14. i dont have kids.
    but in my family,
    the oldest child
or if the whole family is getting together, the oldest child from each family gets together and they plan a christmas surprise
    Im the oldest child now,
(my older brothers are in college and boarding school)
so i have been getting gifts
    making gifts
    and making 1000 paper stars
    and ill get up
    early early in the morning
    after the toys are out
    before everyone wakes up
and set everything out as a surprse for the parents and younger children

the grown ups know that its coming but they are always surprised
    so do the little kids.
    they think its really santa!

I also made a little book of all the reasons i have the best parents on earth and the best family and will hang it, along with other trinkits on the tree (new bose headphones)

also, in my family, all of us have a talent
im the writer and artist, the schemer the thinker. im the abstract head in the clouds one with the high, innocent voice
my middle brother is the songwriter, the one with the sweet, melancholy voice
my twin brother is the thinker. the mathmetician. the bossy one.
my eldest brother is the sporty one
and my youngest brothers (twins) are comedians

    So I write a play/musical(14)
    my middle brother writes music(16)
my twin bro is the director and the editor and the stage crew(14)
the little ones are the comedians- cracking everyone up(10)
and my eldest brother ends up doing some kind of stunt (18)
and we all do some acting
and my middle bro and i sing a duet.
    our parents always cry.

and we make ornaments out of the eggs from the pies and treats and cookies
we poke holes in the top and bottom,
and then blow really really hard until all the egg comes out
    then wash the inside out
and soak them in alchahol for a bit

and then take them out and let them dry

then the eggs are dry, thread a string through and paint them!

    let the paint dry
    and tada! ornaments!

O.K. we go to my grandmothers house on Christmas eve around 1:00 p.m. and then just hang out watch t.v. play board games and then we get chinese food for supper then sit down watch a movie or two and then we read the christmas story and another poems we have and open one gift witch is always a pair of PJ’s. Write a letter for Santa and leave cookies out. Then go to bed (not really me and my aunt have are own tradition, at 12 o’clock we watch the sound of Music every year lol). And then when we get up at about 5 we have to wait till 6 and then we open are stalkings and then the rest of are gifts. And then we usually go to the local soup kitchen and pass out food (we can’t go this year so sad!) and then come home and have are Christmas diner and then my mom and dad go home around 1:00 and us kids stay with my grandmother for the night and then the next morning my parents pick us up and we go away for 3 days and go shopping with are Christmas money and gift cards.
Hope I helped you! Merry Christmas!
